For its 9th edition, Design Week Mexico, in collaboration with Museo Tamayo, presents the Parteluz (Mullion) pavilion by Materia. Opening on October 11th in Chapultepec Park’s museum gardens, this pavilion offers a unique architectural experience. Parteluz functions as both a spatial artifact and a reflective tool, exploring time and light through its design. The pavilion features 70 prefabricated white concrete columns, each 4.8 meters tall, arranged in a curved formation. This layout creates an intimate, semi-enclosed space that frames views of the park and sky, enhancing the visitor experience.
The columns are connected by double pine-wood beams, showcasing Mexican craftsmanship and creating a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. The design allows for a changing pattern of light as shadows move across the columns throughout the day, highlighting the pavilion’s modern and contemplative nature. By juxtaposing solid structures with open voids, Parteluz emphasizes architectural duality and offers a serene space for reflection. This pavilion not only enriches the Museo Tamayo’s gardens but also exemplifies a harmonious blend of contemporary design and traditional materials.
