Casa U is situated on a steep, mountainous cliff on the outskirts of Mexico City, offering views of the Valley of Mexico. The design leverages the site’s topography by challenging conventional house layouts, providing rooftop access and descending to private and social spaces.

Existing trees frame the house, enhancing natural light and The exterior is simple and modest, hiding the interior while emphasizing the relationship between the slope and horizon. An access portal leads to a bridge that transforms into an observation platform. The house recedes from the slope, minimizing pathways and maximizing green space.

The building’s envelope blends with the terrain, using volcanic stone at the base and reflecting the sky above. The central staircase serves as the project’s core, guiding movement between levels and framing views. Strategic extensions of the treads slow movement, promoting a mindful transition between levels.

The upper level contains the garage and lobby. Below are two bedrooms, a study, bathrooms, a master suite with a private bath and dressing room, and a terrace. The lower level features the living room, dining area, kitchen, and a semi-buried game room with garden access.

Materials vary by function: concrete for service areas, black stone for social spaces, and white finishes for bedrooms. The landscaping integrates seamlessly with the site."
